West Sacramento Police Departmentbackground

Hiring Process

The West Sacramento Police Department follows a thorough and structured hiring process designed to identify individuals who are not only qualified but also aligned with the department’s core values of integrity, professionalism, and community partnership. The process begins with an online application, followed by a written exam and physical agility test for entry-level candidates. Applicants who pass these initial stages move on to a panel interview. Those who perform successfully in the oral interview may receive a conditional job offer, pending the successful completion of an in-depth background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and medical screening. Candidates who are not already POST-certified may be required to attend a police academy. All new officers must complete a rigorous field training program before being assigned to solo patrol duties. This comprehensive process ensures that only the most capable and dedicated individuals join the ranks of the West Sacramento Police Department.
